If there is one thing that makes you fall in love with Fuerteventura, beyond its climate and relaxed pace, it is its beaches. At R2 Hotels, we are fortunate to be very close to some of the best on the island, and it is not just us who say so: the Blue Flag, an international recognition that assesses water quality, safety, services and respect for the environment, says so too.
Today we’re taking you on a tour of the beaches you’ll find near our hotels. Places where you can walk barefoot, unwind, take a dip or simply gaze at the horizon.
Costa Calma Beach: tranquillity, white sand and very close to you
One of the best known on the island, and rightly so. Costa Calma beach is right in front of our R2 Maryvent Beach Apartments, and also just a few steps away from R2 Higos Beach Aparthotel.
This beach is wide, quiet and perfect for spending the day. It has been awarded a blue flag, which means it has facilities, good accessibility and excellent water quality. It is ideal for families, for walking along the shore or simply stretching out in the sun with the Atlantic breeze.
Sotavento Beach: that postcard image that stays with you
If you’ve searched for images of Fuerteventura, you’re sure to have seen this beach. It’s the one with the sandbars that jut out into the sea, forming a kind of natural lagoon when the tide is high. It’s one of those beaches that looks like something from another world, it’s so beautiful.
From R2 Pájara Beach, you can get there in a few minutes by car. And believe us, it’s worth it. Not only for its landscape, but also because the wind here is ideal for practising water sports.
Morro Jable Beach: golden sand and all amenities
Right in front of the R2 Buganvilla Hotel & Spa, this beach is perfect if you are looking for comfort without sacrificing anything. You can walk straight down from the hotel and find yourself on one of the best-rated beaches in the south of Fuerteventura, which also has a blue flag.
It has a promenade with restaurants and shops, sunbed areas and beach bars, and fine golden sand that invites you to walk barefoot without watching the clock. What’s more, if you like exploring, you can walk to the port or the lighthouse. It’s one of those beaches that has it all without losing its charm.
What does it mean when a beach has a Blue Flag?
The Blue Flag is an international distinction that recognises beaches that care for their environment, offer quality services and guarantee accessibility, cleanliness and safety. It is much more than just a beautiful beach: it is a well-maintained beach that is ready for you to enjoy in peace.
For us, the fact that our nearby beaches have this recognition is yet another confirmation that we are in the right place, surrounded by nature, quality and respect for our surroundings.
If you would like to know more about this distinction, you can visit the official Blue flags beaches website.
Fuerteventura, sea and R2 Hotels: the perfect combination
At R2 Hotels, we don’t just want you to rest well or eat well. We want you to experience the island as we do. We want you to stroll down to the beach without rushing, walk along the sand with your flip-flops in your hand, and swim without watching the time. And at the end of the day, we want you to have a comfortable place to continue enjoying yourself.
The beaches are right here, next door. You’ve already got the hotel. Fuerteventura provides the rest.
